AUSVERKAUFT! Magdalena Gespräch mit Karim El Gawhary
Alles ist im Nahen Osten derzeit im Fluss. Die Region in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft Europas ist so instabil wie schon lange nicht mehr. Die Frage nach der Zukunft des Gazastreifens bleibt völlig offen. Ein dortiger Waffenstillstand verdient kaum seinen Namen: Über 600 Palästinenser und drei israelische Soldaten wurden seit dem Waffenstillstandsabkommen im Oktober getötet, Hilfslieferungen werden weiterhin behindert. Die israelische Armee hält über die Hälfte des Gazastreifens direkt besetzt, während die Hamas im anderen Teil an der Macht geblieben ist.
Trotz all der ungelösten Probleme soll nun die zweite Phase des Waffenstillstands beginnen. Ein neuer sogenannter „Friedensrat“, angeführt von US-Präsident Donald Trump, soll die Geschicke des Gazastreifens überwachen. Israel und die USA wollen sich auf die Entwaffnung der Hamas konzentrieren, die Palästinenser hingegen auf ein Ende der israelischen Besatzung, den Rückzug der israelischen Armee und konkrete Schritte hin zu einem palästinensischen Staat.
Auch der Libanon und Syrien bleiben in den Schlagzeilen. In Syrien kämpft die Zentralregierung des Übergangspräsidenten Ahmad al-Scharaa darum, das gesamte Land unter Kontrolle zu bringen, während Kurden und religiöse Minderheiten sich Sorgen über ihre zukünftige Stellung machen.
Am Roten Meer ist zwischen Saudi-Arabien und Ägypten auf der einen Seite sowie den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten und Israel auf der anderen Seite ein Machtkampf um Einflusszonen ausgebrochen. Neue Allianzen werden gebildet.
Und nicht zuletzt ist da der Iran: Nach einem scheinbar niedergeschlagenen Aufstand bleibt das Regime an der Macht, während das Land politisch und gesellschaftlich zunehmend ausgehöhlt ist.
Genug Stoff für einen Vortrag über die Lage der Region und die Situation der Menschenrechte – sowie für eine lebhafte Diskussion.

Karim El Gawhary, arbeitet seit 1991 als Nahost-Korrespondent für den ORF in Kairo. Er hat Islamwissenschaft und Politikwissenschaft mit dem Schwerpunkt Nahost an der FU Berlin studiert. Zuletzt wurde viel über ihn gesprochen, weil sein Vertrag mit dem ORF nach 22 Jahren überraschend aufgelöst wird.

Certificate of Participation
You will receive your written certificate of participation immediately after the course. Please note that 75% attendance is required for this.
Cancellation Conditions
Please note the cancellation conditions for courses and seminars:
- Free up to 1 week before the start of the event
- 7-2 days before the start of the event 50%
- On the day before and on the day of the event 100% of the course fee.
Reservation of Changes
Our event program is planned long-term. Organizationally necessary deviations between the announcement and execution or changes (even short-term) serving quality improvement regarding event content, days, and dates as well as speakers do not entitle participants to claim damages.
Prices
We calculate our prices tightly. Therefore, please expect a price adjustment at the turn of the year. The course fee will be charged approximately two weeks before the start of the seminar. Material costs will be collected in cash directly by the lecturers.
Consent to Data Processing
By registering for an event, consent is given for the automated processing of data. Furthermore, participants agree that name and contact details will be transmitted to persons entrusted with the administration of the event and to facilitate communication with the organization of the event. In principle, all personal information is treated strictly confidentially and not passed on to third parties.
Liability
The Bildungshaus Sankt Magdalena assumes no liability for theft or damage to items brought by customers or visitors into rooms, seminar rooms, and publicly accessible areas. It is not permitted to attach or set up decorative material or other technical items in the premises without consent. If the Bildungshaus Sankt Magdalena incurs damages as a result, the customer, regardless of who carried out these works, must compensate for this damage.
General
If individual provisions of the agreement become ineffective, the effectiveness of the remaining agreement is not affected.
