Sustainability

In Sankt Magdalena

Sustainability in the sense of a careful and appreciative handling of resources is a fundamental concern for us in the educational center. Therefore, we implement the following points:

Despite the panoramic location above the rooftops of Linz and amidst greenery, Sankt Magdalena is easily accessible by public transport. Without extensive walking, you can reach the St. Magdalena tram stop with lines 1 or 2 from Linz train station. Directly opposite is the stop for the district bus line 101. This will take you to the hill - from the Schatzweg stop, the walk to our house is less than 200 meters. You can find the Linz Linien timetable query here.

We have been awarded the Austrian Eco-label since 2024. As a thank you for your arrival by public transport, you will receive a voucher for a drink at the bar at our reception. Please inform us that you have arrived by public transport and collect your voucher.

Accessibility is an important step towards sustainability and social responsibility. Here in our FAQs, you will find a detailed presentation of accessibility in Sankt Magdalena.

Our hotel rooms are functionally equipped - energy-intensive features such as air conditioning or a minibar were deliberately omitted during the last renovation phase. Instead, investments were made in window glass and facade insulation according to the latest building biology standards.

Would you like to charge your electric car during your hotel or seminar stay? On our premises, there is a public e-charging station with 6 stations.

At our enjoyment break table, our seminar guests will find regional and seasonal delicacies - from Mühlviertler organic tea and freshly pressed fruit juices to savory spreads, bacon, and vegetables as a snack. Therefore, you won't find bananas and tropical fruits in the fruit basket - instead, enjoy crisp apples, pears, and depending on the season, strawberries, cherries, and plums!

The ever-popular coffee machine in the break area brews your coffee from organic and Fairtrade-certified beans.

Of course, we also place great importance on the regional and seasonal origin of the products and ingredients for the main meals in the restaurant, which are almost exclusively purchased fresh and processed on-site.

A large amount of laundry accumulates daily in hotels - we have chosen the most resource-efficient way to wash: our bed linen and towels are washed in our in-house laundry without transport routes. The detergents are supplied by an automatic dosing system only in the amount necessary for hygienic cleaning.

The employees are a cornerstone of the company - therefore, we place great value on social sustainability. We create a work atmosphere in which employees can develop their potential and are happy to give their best. Sankt Magdalena was awarded the seal of approval for workplace health promotion for 2019-2022 and again for 2022-2025. We are proud to have already congratulated several employees on their 10th, 20th, and even 30th service anniversaries!

Since January 2024, we have been the bearers of the Austrian eco-label, sending a clear signal for the environment and sustainability. Here you will find detailed guest information about our commitment.

During the revitalization of the education center in 2014, a photovoltaic system was installed on our large south-facing roof area.

If you are our guest for more than one night, there is the option to forgo room cleaning for the sake of the environment. A corresponding door hanger is available in your hotel room.

All fittings in the hotel rooms are equipped with the Ecoturbino(R) energy-saving system, which saves up to 40% of water and energy.
